God’s Provision During COVID
There is always good news to share from those serving so beautifully with Iris Global. When you partner with us, you help make stories like this possible! The Dondo Preschool provides free Christian education to local village children along with a healthy lunch each day. The school is open to 4 & 5-year-olds and most children come from underprivileged homes in which both parents are unemployed or they are orphans. The children begin their day with prayer and devotions. They are taught a Bible story and sing songs. The 4-year-olds learn basic Portuguese letters, how to read and write their names. They also learn numbers, shapes, colors, social science, natural science, and art. Tawnya Weaver, co-director in Dondo, Mozambique, shares a testimony of God’s provision over this past year.
Providing education for those without opportunity
“We are so blessed that even in this difficult year, we were able to provide more than enough for our preschool students, families, and staff as so many of them already struggle to provide for their families despite the pandemic. Normally, our preschool feeds, educates, and provides basic medical care to the most vulnerable four to five-year-old children in our area. We work with our two teachers to interview families and find the children who would otherwise have no opportunity for schooling and, through your generous support, we provide all the services for free.
When schools in Mozambique were closed in March 2020 to prevent the spread of COVID-19, our preschool had to send all 75 students home. In spite of not being able to hold in-person classes, we partnered with another organization in Dondo to develop a distance learning program and once a week our teachers delivered educational packets to our students and dropped off food for their families. Not only did we meet a suitable level of schooling we were still able to pay a full salary to our two teachers, two helpers, and cook. With all the uncertainty and instability in our community, it was a thrill to demonstrate God’s faithfulness to our students, their families, and our wonderful staff members!”
